Trunyan is a village in northern Bali where the dead are not buried or cremated.
This documentary explores an ancestral funerary practice that reveals a different relationship with death, time, and human presence.
Located on the shores of Lake Batur, Trunyan has preserved traditions passed down for centuries. Through daily life, gestures, and silence, the film offers an intimate look at how a community lives alongside death without fear or spectacle.
Rather than focusing on ritual alone, the documentary explores human connection, memory, and the balance between nature and culture. It is a film about presence, patience, and respect.
Filmed over an extended period, this project was made with the full consent of the community.
This video is the official trailer of the documentary film Trunyan – The Village of Silent Souls.
